Hawi town is the northern most city on the island and the largest city in North Kohala. Now a quiet, restul place to visit, iit was was once a booming sugar manufacturing area before the plants closed in the 1970s. It has historical significance with several buildings from the mid 1850's still standing today.
The Rev. Elisa Bond's Estate is being renovated, check to see if completed before visiting. This historic estate dates back to 1840.
Tree tunnel outside Hawi at Mile Marker #24 which leads to the historic Kalahikiola Church.
Kalahikiola Church in North Kohala-it was founded by Rev. Elisa Bond and built in 1855.
Tips and Information
Historic places to visit, shopping, art galleries, Upolu Airport is located 3 miles west of Hawi, featuring sight seeing trips.
Direction
Take Highway 270 north from Kawaihae. Hawi is located before Kapa'au around Mile Marker #22.
