rainbow falls parkHilo, on the Wainauenue Avenue to reach the west, lies the Wailuku River State Park. Here it is parked and has only a few steps to the 30-meter-high Rainbow Falls. The waterfall plunges over a cliff into a round basin and the impact of the water masses generates such a splash Gischtschleier that one ray of sunlight in a rainbow can see almost all, of the cases gave their names.

Above the falls, several separate banks with natural rock pools where you can swim beautifully. They are called Boiling Pots. Drive along the road past the Hospital a few miles to the signs Pee Pee Falls Street turn here, then you turn right and run a few steps after you have parked. The circular holes in the rock are a popular swimming spot with locals, further upstream you can see the Pee Pee Falls.

The Big Island's second well-known falls is in Hilo itself. Rainbow Falls is only 80 feet high, but it out-produces any other in the state in sheer volume. Its average discharge per day is more than 300 million gallons.
Rainbow Falls takes its name from a rainbow formed by the mists and sunlight. The falls are 80 feet high. A cave lies beneath the falls, which legend says was home to Hina, mother of the demigod Maui.
